Jelly roll strip stars Missouri quilt co.

I am working on my xmas stars made from Jelly rolls. I am making each of the points by sewing the background piece twice, 1/4" apart, cutting between the double row of stitching( forming the point) and making a pinwheel out of it like Bonnie Hunter shows on Quiltville.
1. Did NOT realize that half of these are right hand and half are left handed pinwheels
2. this is cause 1/2 are sewn opposite the other half in order to make stars from strips
3. It will make an equal number of each
4. It should be easy to use in a border or some other project.
5. Sashing and a little work should stop it from being a problem
6. it makes 8 pieces per star and that is 2 pinwheels: one is a left and one is a right

The blocks make an 11" block that may finish at slightly under 10.5 after seams. I am aiming at 6x8 rows for 48 blocks and planning borders.
It takes one strip of the color for each star and a bunch of background fabrics...(*bunch was technical tal talk for I don't know offhand here)
*this means I should have 96 pinwheels and that 48 are lefts and 48 are rights

Flickr

I signed up for the free Flickr and looked at the price for the pro version. Appears that as of now, it is $24.99 per year. The free one is more than what I used on Webshots. I am concerned about the rules for the free one. It includes not being able to download your own photos back if I understood that. It aslo can remove your stuff if there isn't any activity on the account for a certain period of time.

webshots closing

Webshots is closing and has caused very unforutunate trouble for a lot of users. If users are lucky and get the photos back at all, they are stripped of all info including the names. Sad was to try to get or keep customers for their new "Smile" site. I consider it a sick joke that they named it "Smile".
So, I spent a bit of time getting my photos from it. I doubt that they will keep the over 900 posted compaints from users for very long. I expect they will sweep it under the rug soon.

FLIP flap purse SPECIAL NOTES

I am making a  special "flip flap purse" from the pattern by Whistlepig Creek Productions.  http://www.wpcreek.com/
I like the pattern and wanted to use it for the xmas angel fabric but I want the angels to be seen. I am calling it special cause it needs everything turned the right way and I am useing the middle flap as the only flap for the purse. This is to let the angels show on the front.
Every piece needs extra planning to do show the angels upside right and try show them in an effective way. I have photos and some notes to try to document that. It makes it important to make the upper front bag be turned the right way. It makes it important to cut the upper front bag at the top edge of the lower front bag piece instead of the layout for the purse being out of a nondirectional fabric. I have cut the pockets for the hidden front pocket so that the angel shows inside the pocket as the back side of the pocket but I used a solid cream as the piece against the front lower bag.
FLAP: I am using the  lower flap piece of the middle flap as the purse flap and NOT using the curved flap.
FUSIBLE FLEECE: This is a variation/mistake that turned out to be important to me. I wasn't thinking about the fact that cutting the pieces with the fleece folded gave me a left and right. This worked perfectly for the angel fabric as the main bag cause it gave me left and right flaps and the angels were place on the fabric where it allowed me to use the WOF without really fussy cutting for the bag. The angels show more on the bottom right OR on the bottom left and I have flaps to make that work. The FLEECE looks better for the flap if it is ironed to the outer side of the flap or whatever piece it is. The FLEECE is giving it stability and preventing any looseness or sagging of any of the fabric then.
QUILTING the FLEECE lined flap presented some problems and I love it but the whole fact that I did that was all part of the left/right flap thing. This caused me to quilt it so the fleece is on the under side and the top of the flap would be loose and that is why I wanted it quilted. I also wanted a bit of difference in the purses. The quilting is just straight lines with my sewing machine. It looked nice and then I ironed it. This cause the back side to sort of wrinkle like a washed quilt. The front did NOT wrinkle. I don't really want it wrinkled. If the flap had been done with the fusible fleece on the outer side...I would have had the wrinkles on the top of the flap.
I am hoping to do a tutorial for the use of such fabrics and this pattern. I have photos of the steps and placement showing directions of the angels. I am not certain the wrinkles show in the top flap but I am tying to note the issues or effects of some of my experience making it. The thickness with the fusible batting is a bit of a problem. I am having a little trouble with that and the machine needs settings changed for it.
Sewing the fleece strap pieces: glue side is right side and must be together!
* watch for marking and placement of pocket in the lining. The 10.5x11.5 is so similar that I drew the line the wrong way and sewed in one pocket where it would be sideways! I was carried away by trying to have the color and blotches showing the nicest and it was so close to the same size, OOPS, So it pays to pay attention and to use a Frixion pen to mark with.

Whistlepig Creek Productions

I have looked at purse patterns  for a couple years. I found a site I like. I found it after seeing a purse in the LQS that caused me to buy the pattern. I played with making the purse tonight. It is close to done and will need a couple buttons. I considered it confusing cause I was using stripes and fabric with words. I ended up finding out that there is a terrific tutorial on the site for that specific purse and other tutorials for their patterns. I got the flip flap purse. I want more. So, they also have digital downloads of the patterns and you never have to leave home. I like that too. The tutorial showed me everything I could need to ask. I thought I would hate making the strap. It was actually easy. I did have to adjust the pressure on the thick layer to do it.
I browsed the site and went to the blog and then to the blogs they liked. This took me to a humorous site that seems to have little videos of stupid things people do. I had a few REALLY good laughs there.  Check out favorites on their list and then Moda Lissa.
