Emerson E543 Tablet 4.3" Tech Tips

I am just learning my way around in the tablet. The parent company is Southern Telecom http://southerntelecom.com They appear to make tablets for Emerson, Polaroid., Slick, Sharper Image, Bell & Howell, etc.  This info is from the Southern Telecom site and from the next site is a tech site that gave part of the info.

Emerson Tablet apps

This is the start of a list for what apps work, apps that don't work and games that work. I will add to this as I try apps. I will add a bit of info with them. Apps in red are factory installs. I did consider the factory ones nice.
*I am working on several things for uses the tablet should do. Looking at video/movie and scanning bar codes and will post those
** A bit of importance for kids to use a tablet: there is a nice kids place app that is controlled by the parents and password applied so that they can only get to the stuff deemed safe

 WORK IN PROGRESS HERE:

APPS THAT WORK:
Amazon app store... download apps (may want to use Amazon gift card) NOTE: update ruined mine and I had to redo it to get it to work again. Had a blank screen
FBReader ...BOOKREADER
Coolreader..this is for books to be read to you. It needs help to sound nicer. Use the next app with it.
The Assistant...love this one. It is like Siri. must be online. You can change her appearance.
Evernote...had to be online, sign up to run it first time
Utube...for videos on Utube
OfficeSuite5 ...wants you to register but can use it with register later
FILE manager is an absolute must to search thru the files and the external micro sd card
Androzip for zipped files
Antivirus free... this doesn't bog down the tablets
Accuweather for android

________________________________________________________________

APPS THAT DON'T WORK:
Google play store ... I do hope that they add this tablet but not working for now.
________________________________________________________________

GAMES THAT WORK:
Pentas..kind of reverse tetris.

Temple Run...I like it myself. Man running from chimps

Super Androix works ok ..is it a Mario type game but looks like the scubbing bubbles guy

kitten Vs. Zombie *it says based on device hardware ..it selected on screen pad* nice
grundge is only free cat..not bad for a child..or extremely bored grown up

Ugly Bird jump might be nice for child...young child but a ball of string is as exciting

New: The Lost City... cool for an app. It is a point and click type like the old Shadowgate game and is a free app of the day.

Angry birds and Angry Birds Seasons are nice. I like the second one best

*Magic Academy: Hidden Castle is nice and has a Harry Potter feel to it. It is a find an object game

GAMES THAT DON'T WORK:
Mad Race...seem to need keypad to use it

Emerson Android Tablet

I have to confess that all quilting stopped and I did a 3 day shopping frenzy. It ended well with a surprise purchase I didn't intend to buy. It is my new hot toy. It was a Black Friday special from Big Lots. I went to get an 8" tablet for my neighbor. I didn't even look at the smaller one. I figured it wouldn't be worth having. WRONG!  So, later I told a friend about the small version since she wanted one for a grandchild. We had to drive about an hour to get to a store that still had them. I couldn't believe that they seemed nice. I ended up with a white one. It looks like an Ipod.  I got an micro sd card cheap from Staples Black Friday sale too.
The trip ended up with a strained friendship. The purchased tablet is terrific. I will do all shopping by myself from this time forward though. I will not go thru that again. I had been enjoying it all including the crowds.
The Emerson tablet is nicer than the first generation of Kindle Fire. It has awesome features including, a camera/video, microphone, memory card slot, android 4 system, and several handy buttons ( a go back, volume up and volume down) It is a bit bigger than my cell phone and will be extremely convenient to carry everywhere. I took some time to load stuff on it last night. I will have more space to use with my 16gb memory card in it. I am seriously IMPRESSED. I can't say enough nice things. I just hope it lasts. I spent part of today loading apps and playing with it. I am in love with the voice ability. I can talk to it now. That gives it several apps that are amazing to use. I love the "assisstant" app. It is like Siri and I can talk to it. I will be able to make a voice recording and to use voice commands in other apps now. The camera is a handy thing too but not important to me.
I still have a few apps I want to add. I have to admit there is a slight problem with Google not working on it. For whatever reason, Google does not acknowledge it and won't directly let anybody put apps on it from Google play. I have about 5 other app stores I am getting apps from. Amazon works ok with it and I have gotten a couple there. I am making a set of notes for what I have done and how to. The documentation with it is EXCELLENT. All you need to do is READ it. I did that second... since I had been using a Kindle Fire. Would have been better to read it first. I am amazed at it. I already installed utube and watched Missouri quilt co. tutorial video last night.
I don't have any books on it yet. I did use the connection provided by the manufacturer to go to the app stores that work well with it. These  don't require a credit card be given and have a bunch of free apps too. I did get an audio book or two but finally wanted to stop and put it on charge so I could play with it later. I am checking the battery time on it. I had it online and that is harder on the battery. I feel it is doing ok on the battery and is similar to the Kindle Fire. I think they are a lot less than what the company tries to claim. Yeah, I even loaded a fancy live wallpaper.
Noteworthy for an Android app users: SlideMe marketplace for apps     * nicely done site LOOK at it.
Most everything is working well. I had issues with what onscreen keyboard to use in the Kindle Fire and had to change my app to find a more pleasing one. I say this cause I am not really happy iwth the keyboard app. It is a bit large for the size of the screen. I may be able to just say what I want. It covers too much of the area on a website. It is a bit better turned the right way...still gonna look at different keyboard apps. I think the directional stuff is just a tad touchy. It is awefully nice overall.

SPLIT 9 PATCH Nov 19, 2012

I have finally gotten all of the split 9 patch blocks made. I have added and changed what is going in it a couple times. I am very satisfied at this point. Not really happy about the time though. I am sure I could have chosen something quicker. I even like my batik 10 minute block quilt  better.  I watched more tutorials on Missouri quilt company and I think the disappearing 9 patch might be faster and less fuss for seams too.  I watched the Bulls lose 2 nights in a row. That is one reason it is taking so long. I will most likely leave it on hold for a day or 2 for my birthday (Tuesday, Nov,20).
My split 9 patch quilt is for the donation to the Hurricane Sandy area. I am making it after seeing the info on another quilter/blogger site: http://vesuviusmama.blogspot.com/

These are the 42 blocks laying out to decide on color placement.

Online quilt classes

I have signed up for 2 classes. I am excited about them but haven't gotten to view them yet. I have one from Kim Brunner and one from Angela Walters. More on those later. Everybody seems to love both instructors and I have been thrilled with other online classes I have taken.

Quilts for Sandy victims

I was a bit slow realizing how bad it is in those areas. I have gone thru some of my partial quilts and UFO's and I have a set of blocks ready for a top. I am hoping to use up some of them for a good cause. It is aweful to read about the conditions and lack of heat to so many at this time of year. These are large blocks from the 10 minute block quilt book. I think that 12 blocks with sashing will make a nice size. I will measure and add an outer border if I feel it needs it. This is made from 24 fat quarters. I have leftovers and may use them for the binding also. I have a second set cut that is a dark color set. I think it is colorful and will be nice for somebody.

Bonnie Hunter new mystery quilt

I am paying attention to the posted info on Bonnie Hunter's blog for her new mystery quilt. It is set to start in November. I got a heads up on this from Cindy, a friend, who also quilts. The quilt is 4 colors as best I can tell, It is a purple, lime green, aqua and a grey as a common? color. I don't like grey in almost any quilt I have seen unless it was a red/gray Ohio State quilt. Bonnie says you can use the colors of choice... So, I am not sure what I want to do. I just might use the colors she suggested but a black instead of a grey.

NOV. 5, 2012

Seems I have left my blog unattended. I didn't mean to. I have found so many nice blogs with great info that I just don't know how I could possibly have one that is important, useful, meaningful etc.
I have discoved all the videos on utube for stitching different all over designs. I am saving them to lists and favorites,  I am impressed by what I have seen so far that is from APQS. I am making a notebook up with drawings to refer back to for the designs.
I have been out gathering up new "free" downloaded patterns. Somehow, I didn't seem to think I have enough.
I hadn't been on the blog since the mess with the fish and the aquariums. I have not quilted either.
I did trim the last quilt that I did for a friend. That is a step in the right direction.
